“육지의 4분의 3이 사막화 위기”…유엔의 경고

지구온난화가 지구를 사막으로 만들고 있다는 유엔(UN)의 경고가 나왔다.

UNCCD는 동아시아가 건조화의 가장 큰 영향을 받는 지역인 만큼 한국도 계속해서 영향을 받을 수밖에 없다고 분석했다. 몽골과 함께 중국도 건조화가 빠르게 진행 중이다. 중국은 전 세계에서 가장 넓은 면적이 습윤 지역에서 건조 지역으로 바뀌는 국가로 꼽혔다.

배런 오르 UNCCD 수석과학자는 “협력 없이는 수십억명이 굶주리고 빈곤해지는 미래가 찾아올 것”이라며 “우리가 가진 문제는 건조화에 대응할 방법이 없는 것이 아니라 행동에 나설 의지가 있는지 여부다”고 말했다.

The United Nations (UN) has issued a warning that global warming is turning the Earth into a desert.

The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) analyzed that East Asia is one of the regions most affected by desertification, meaning South Korea is also bound to face ongoing impacts. Desertification is progressing rapidly in both Mongolia and China. China has been identified as the country with the largest area transitioning from humid to arid regions globally.

Barron Orr, Chief Scientist of the UNCCD, stated, "Without cooperation, we face a future where billions will suffer from hunger and poverty. The issue is not a lack of ways to combat desertification, but rather whether we have the will to act."

전북연구원, 기후 인플레이션 대응 대체식품 개발 제안

10일 전북연구원은 이슈 브리핑을 통해 기후변화로 인해 농산물의 생산환경과 소비시장의 형태가 변해 새로운 식품개발에 대한 수요가 늘어날 것으로 전망했다.

식물성·단백질을 활용한 식품이 대체식품 대부분을 차지하지만, 지속 가능한 미래를 위해선 배양육 개발에 주목해야 한다고 내다봤다.

이를 위해 지난 2023년 전북 지역 산업 발전계획에 따라 식품산업 고도화를 위한 전략 발굴 및 방향성을 설정, 스마트 농생명, 식품산업을 대상으로 종합적인 전략을 수립했다.

이번 컨퍼런스는 식품연 연구 성과를 공유함은 물론, 식품 연구의 미래를 위해 산·학·연·관이 한데 모인 가운데 성황리에 개최됐다.

백현동 식품연 원장은 “이번 컨퍼런스를 통해 다양한 분야의 전문가들이 식품산업의 새로운 가능성을 탐색하고 협력 방안을 모색하는 기회가 되었기를 바란다”며 “앞으로도 한국식품연구원이 대한민국 식품산업의 글로벌 경쟁력을 강화하고 지속 가능한 발전을 이루기 위해 최선을 다하겠다”고 밝혔다.
