SIMPLE Planet Signed an MOU with The Halal Science Center Chulalongkorn University to Lead Halal Verification on Cultivated Food
Simple Planet has announced its collaboration with the Halal Science Center (HSC) at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. This partnership signifies Simple Planetโs commitment to establishing Halal Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) production facilities and achieving Halal certification for its products.

Cultivated Food Association Holds General Meeting to Discuss Future Activities and Industry Development
The Korea Cultivated Food Association (Chairman Kim Sung-jin) held its annual general meeting on the 20th at the Leaders Administrative Law Firm conference room.
The association, founded by domestic startups engaged in cultivated meat research and development, is led by its first chairman, Kim Sung-jin, COO of CellMeat. It includes 11 member companies: DanaGreen, CellMeat, Cellqua, ShooFab, SpaceF, Simple Planet, Seaweed, FN Fresh, WingStar Bio, Tissen Biopharm, and Pangse.
The association officially received corporate establishment approval from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs on March 8, 2023, and held its inaugural meeting at Dongguk University in December of the same year.
Its key objectives include establishing the cultivated food industry in the domestic market, securing Koreaโs food sovereignty, enhancing global competitiveness, and promoting sustainable food solutions that consider climate change mitigation and animal welfare.
According to McKinsey, cultivated food is expected to account for 1% (approximately 32 trillion KRW) of the global meat market by 2030. AT Kearney forecasts this figure to rise to 35% (around 581 trillion KRW) by 2040.
In response to these market trends, the Korean government introduced an amendment to the Food Sanitation Act Enforcement Rules in May 2023 to officially recognize cultivated food. Additionally, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety is laying the legal groundwork for industrialization through temporary standards and regulatory revisions.

The Singaporean government has continuously improved food safety laws and regulations to maintain this reputation and strengthen its competitiveness as a global food hub. On January 8 of this year, the Singaporean Parliament passed the new Food Safety and Security Bill (FSSB).
Singapore's previous food safety laws had different focal points, but some regulations overlapped, making compliance challenging for businesses. In particular, laws governing the inspection of imported food and those setting quality standards contained similar provisions, causing confusion among companies. Additionally, there were no clear regulations for novel foods such as cultivated meat, alternative proteins, and genetically modified foods, highlighting the need for a new law.
The newly implemented FSSB aims to consolidate nine existing laws into a single framework, eliminating redundancy and simplifying regulations. This will help businesses reduce the time and cost required for compliance, while consumers will benefit from clearer and stricter safety standards.
