부산시, 친환경·바이오 기업 유치 총력전

부산시가 기업 투자 유치 총력전을 통해 결실을 거두고 있다. 친환경·바이오기업 등이 잇달아 부산에 새 둥지를 틀고 있는 것이다.

부산시는 15일 시청 영상회의실에서 미래 친환경 소재와 바이오테크 기업을 포함한 4개 기업과 ‘투자 520억 원, 신규고용 206명’ 규모 투자양해각서를 체결했다. 체결식에는 박형준 시장, 윤종찬 비엠티 대표, 윤성식 드라이브포스 대표, 한동오 심플플래닛 부대표가 참석했다.

서울에 본사를 두고 있는 심플플래닛은 본사를 부산으로 이전한다. 심플플래닛은 세포농업 기술 기반의 ‘기능성 미래식품 원료 개발’을 통해 글로벌 대체 단백질 시장에서 빠르게 성장하고 있는 바이오 푸드테크 기업이다. 이번 투자를 결정한 배경은 부산이 글로벌 시장 진출과 국내외 공급망 확장에 유리한 입지와 우수 인력 확보가 쉬운 점들이 작용했다고 밝혔다.

Busan City in Full Drive to Attract Eco-Friendly and Biotech Companies

Busan City is seeing results from its full-scale efforts to attract corporate investments, with a series of eco-friendly and biotech companies choosing to establish a presence in the city.

On April 15, Busan City signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for investment with four companies, including those in the future eco-friendly materials and biotech sectors. The agreements, signed at the City Hall’s video conference room, represent a total investment of KRW 52 billion and the creation of 206 new jobs. Attendees included Mayor Park Heong-joon, BMT CEO Yoon Jong-chan, DriveForce CEO Yoon Sung-sik, and Simple Planet Vice President Han Dong-oh.

Simple Planet, currently headquartered in Seoul, will relocate its head office to Busan. Simple Planet is a rapidly growing bio food-tech company developing functional future food ingredients based on cellular agriculture technology, targeting the global alternative protein market. The decision to invest in Busan was influenced by the city's favorable location for global market expansion and supply chain growth, as well as its ability to attract top talent.

“인간도 상어처럼 새 치아 얻을까”… 英 연구진, 실험실 치아 배양 성공

13일(현지 시각) 영국 BBC 방송에 따르면 아나 안젤로바-볼포니 박사가 이끄는 킹스 칼리지 런던 연구진은 임페리얼 칼리지 런던 연구진과 협력해 실험실 조건에서 인간의 치아를 성장시키는 데 성공했다고 밝혔다.

공동 연구진은 세포 간 통신을 가능하게 하는 특수 유형의 소재를 도입했다. 한 세포가 다른 세포에게 치아 세포로 성장하도록 명령할 수 있는 소재다. 이를 통해 연구진은 실험실 환경에서도 치아 발달 과정을 재현할 수 있게 됐다.

연구팀은 다음 단계로 치아를 환자의 입 안으로 옮길 방법을 연구하고 있다. 방법은 두가지다. 한 가지 방법은 어린 치아 세포를 빈 치아 부위에 이식해 입 안에서 치아가 새로 자라게 하는 것이며, 또 다른 방법은 실험실에서 성인의 치아만큼 키워 입 안으로 옮겨 심는 것이다.

On April 13 (local time), the BBC reported that a research team at King’s College London, led by Dr. Ana Angelova-Volponi, in collaboration with researchers from Imperial College London, announced success in the growing of human teeth under laboratory conditions.

The joint research team introduced a special type of material that enables intercellular communication—a substrate that allows one cell to instruct another to develop into a tooth cell. This innovation has allowed the researchers to replicate the tooth‑development process even in a lab environment.

The research team is now investigating methods to transfer the lab‑grown teeth into a patient’s mouth. There are two approaches under consideration: one involves implanting immature tooth cells into an empty socket so that the tooth can develop in situ, and the other aims to grow a fully formed adult tooth in the lab and then transplant it directly into the mouth.

이어 "Quorn 제품은 지구 환경을 지키고 육류가 가지고 있는 여러 장점들을 표현해 낼 수 있는 버섯으로 만들어진 식물성단백질로 만든 제품이다. 식감과 맛에서 뛰어난 경험을 할 수 있다."고 부연했다.

전북-네덜란드, ‘대체단백질’ 글로벌 동맹 체결

전북특별자치도는 15일 주한네덜란드대사관과 대체단백질 분야의 글로벌 협력 강화를 위한 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다. 이번 협약은 배양육, 식물성 단백질, 차세대 단백질 원료 등 ‘푸드테크 대체단백질’ 분야의 기술 교류 및 공동 연구 확대를 골자로 하고 있다.

김관영 전북도지사는 이날 도청 집무실에서 페이터 반 더 플리트(Peter van der Vliet) 주한네덜란드 대사를 접견, 푸드테크 대체단백질 분야 산학연 협력 확대와 기술 투자에 대한 관심과 지원을 요청했다. 이번 방문은 페이터 대사가 2023년 8월 부임한 이후 전북을 찾은 첫 공식 일정으로 이목을 끌었다.

협약의 주요 내용에는 △대체단백질 산업 현황 공동 분석 △양국 대표단 교류 확대 △기업 및 연구기관 간 파트너십 구축 △EU R&D 플랫폼 ‘호라이즌 유럽’ 공동 참여 △기타 전략 과제 발굴 등의 구체적 협력 방안이 포함됐다.

Jeonbuk Province–Netherlands Forge Global Alliance on Alternative Proteins

Jeonbuk Special Self‑Governing Province signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Korea on April 15 to strengthen global cooperation in the field of alternative proteins. The agreement centers on expanding technology exchanges and joint research in the food‑tech alternative protein sector, including cultured meat, plant‑based proteins, and next‑generation protein ingredients.

Governor Kim Kwan‑young met with Peter van der Vliet, the Dutch Ambassador to Korea, in the governor’s office at the provincial government building. During the meeting, Governor Kim requested increased support and investment for industry‑academia‑research collaboration in the food‑tech alternative protein field. This visit marked Ambassador van der Vliet’s first official visit in Jeonbuk since his appointment in August 2023.

Under the MOU, both parties will conduct joint analyses of the alternative protein industry landscape, expand exchanges between Korean and Dutch delegations, establish partnerships between companies and research institutions, participate together in the EU R&D platform “Horizon Europe,” and explore additional strategic cooperation initiatives.

최근 대체커피가 새로운 글로벌 산업 트렌드로 떠오르고 있다. 비건(채식주의자)도 먹을 수 있는 대체육 시장에 이어 동물성 유제품을 식물성 유제품으로 대신하는 대체유 시장까지 열린 상황에서 다음 대체식품 트렌드로는 ‘대체커피’가 꼽힌다. 이상기후로 인한 커피 원두 가격 상승에 대응하고, 임산부 등 건강상의 이유로 노카페인을 찾는 소비자층을 새로운 시장으로 겨냥하고 있다.

Recently, alternative coffee has emerged as a new global industry trend. Following the plant‑based meat market—where even vegans can participate—and the plant‑based dairy market that replaces animal‑derived milk, the next alternative‑food trend is “alternative coffee.” It aims both to respond to the rise in coffee‑bean prices caused by extreme weather and to target a new market of consumers—such as pregnant women—seeking caffeine‑free options for health reasons.

Compound Foods is taking a unique approach by upcycling coffee cherries themselves.
