The Better Meat Co's Rhiza Protein Approved in Singapore The Better Meat Co has received approval from the Singapore Food Agency to sell its products made from Rhiza, a protein derived from fungi.
Rhiza is gaining attention as an alternative protein due to its high protein content, fiber, and ability to provide the texture and taste of meat. Singapore is an important market for alternative protein products, and this approval is expected to be a significant step toward entering the Asian market.

Simple Planet Selected as Lead R&D Institution in Korea for โInternational Joint R&D Government ProjectโโJoint Research with Swiss Company Sallea
Simple Planet, in collaboration with its Korean research partner Dongguk University and Swiss lead research institution Sallea, aims to develop โmeat-mimicking technology combining 3D printing and bone and muscle differentiation techniques.โ The project has secured a total research and development fund of 1.5 billion KRW.
As part of this project, Simple Planet will be responsible for producing cell culture raw materials for protein supply and developing mass production processes for cultured food. Dongguk University will focus on cell line development and differentiation research, while Sallea will concentrate on research related to protein-based edible scaffolds. Together, they aim to develop hybrid cell-cultured food.

Salleaโs Role in Growing the Billion-Dollar Cultivated Meat Market The cultivated meat industry is expected to grow by more than $370 billion over the next decade, attracting significant interest from global food companies. Swiss startup Sallea has completed a $2.6 million funding round, positioning itself as a key player.
Currently, cultivated meat is only approved for sale in a few countries such as the U.S., Singapore, Israel, and the U.K., with many countries reviewing approval processes. In addition to environmental benefits, cultivated meat is also claimed to be suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Sallea aims to reduce production costs and improve the texture of cultivated meat by providing plant-based "scaffolds" that accelerate cell farming, using technology developed by ETH Zurich.
The funding round was led by Founderful and Kost Capital, and Sallea is expected to play a significant role in the cultivated meat market. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) plans to develop evaluation criteria over the next two years to streamline approval processes, accelerating product commercialization. |

Tufts University Secures $2.1 Million for Cultivated Meat Research In the UK, a national cultivated meat research center is being established with an investment from the Bezos Earth Fund to promote the cultivated meat and alternative protein industries.
The research center focuses on developing sustainable food production technologies and aims to accelerate the transition within the meat industry. As alternative protein technologies evolve, environmentally friendly and ethical food production methods are expected to spread globally. This center will play a central role in research and commercialization. |

Are We Entering a โNew Era of Alternative Meatโ? Plant-based meat has undergone significant changes over time. According to Spanish plant-based food company Heura Foods, the alternative protein industry is entering a "new era," leveraging new technologies to produce nutritionally dense products.
Beyond Meat has launched products like Beyond Sun Sausage, made with minimal processed ingredients, and Vivera introduced natural-based Protein Bites, challenging the perception that plant-based products must resemble meat.
Consumers are showing a preference for "natural" meat alternatives, countering the image of plant-based products as "ultra-processed" foods. Heura is increasing the nutritional density of plant-based products through a newly patented technology, and fermentation technology is also seen as a promising development. As this transformation unfolds, the future of plant-based meat is expected to bring innovative products using familiar plant ingredients. |

โจJulie l The act of "eating," something we repeat several times a day, has an immense impact. For a healthy lifestyle, we need to maintain a balance of nutrients, and the food supply chains we sustain today will shape the future for generations to come.
๐ฆRio l This week's newsletter is redefining how we think about food with the rise of cell-based meat, which offers real meat with a fraction of the environmental impact. Using less land, water, and emitting fewer emissions, it meets the growing demand for sustainable, eco-friendly options. As regulations and innovations progress, cell-based meat is poised to reshape global food systems and lead us toward a more sustainable future.
๐Wendy l Itโs exciting to see that cultivated meat is becoming more accessible, especially with it being offered at the same price as premium beef. The possibilities for easily enjoying cultivated meat are expanding! ๐ฝ๏ธ๐ฅฉ
