Space F and KIT Complete the World's First Long-Term Non-Clinical Trial of Cultivated Food Food tech startup Space F announced on the 8th that it has successfully completed a long-term non-clinical trial on cell-cultured food in collaboration with the Korea Institute of Toxicology (KIT).
Space F stated, "This trial involved feeding animals with food ingredients produced using cell culture technology over an extended period and comprehensively evaluating their safety," and added that "based on publicly available data, this is considered the first case in the world."
Through this non-clinical trial, Space F evaluated the ingredientโs genotoxicity, general toxicity, allergenicity, and other indicators, and systematically established scientific evidence to ensure safety. The non-clinical study followed international protocols and evaluated safety after long-term intake in terms of acute toxicity, repeated dose toxicity, genotoxicity, immune response, and potential allergenicity.

Upside Foods Wins Initial Victory in Cultured Meat Ban Lawsuit in FloridaโTrial to Proceed U.S. cultured meat startup Upside Foods has won an initial victory in a lawsuit challenging Floridaโs ban on cultured meat.
Chief Judge Mark Walker of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida recently issued a 29-page ruling rejecting the state's request to dismiss the lawsuit, allowing the case to proceed to full trial. As a result, Upside Foods will continue the legal process at the district court level.
Uma Valeti, co-founder and CEO of Upside Foods, said, โWeโre not trying to replace traditional meatโwe simply want the right to compete,โ and added, โFlorida residents should also have the opportunity to enjoy delicious meat without animal slaughter,โ welcoming the decision.

Asahi Launches Japan's First Yeast-Derived Alternative Drink "LIKE MILK" to Address Food Diversity Asahi Group Japan has unveiled "LIKE MILK," Japanโs first yeast-derived alternative drink. Developed using proprietary yeast technology, this product targets consumers with food allergies or dietary restrictions, marking Asahiโs full-scale entry into the non-animal alternative beverage market.
LIKE MILK will be pre-sold on Japanโs crowdfunding platform Makuake from April 16 to June 15, 2025, with a nationwide launch planned for 2026.
The product contains none of the 28 major allergens commonly found in regular foods, making it suitable for allergy sufferers. How to Make Food from Carbon Dioxide, Electricity, and Water In August 2024, a protein called "Solein" won the international category of the Deep Space Food Challenge, organized by NASA in cooperation with the Canadian Space Agency (CSA). Solein was developed by Finnish food tech startup Solar Foods.
By feeding carbon dioxide and hydrogen to bacteria and fermenting them, the resulting microorganisms are dried to produce a yellow protein powder. Solein consists of 78% protein, 10% dietary fiber, 6% fat, 4% minerals, and 2% carbohydrates. It also contains all nine essential amino acids required by the human body.
This protein powder can be used to make a wide variety of foods. It can be added to dough for pasta or bread and used as a raw material to make alternative meats.
