우선 베이 에어리어 내 스프라우츠 파머스 마켓(Sprouts Farmers Market) 매장에서 ‘컬티베이티드 이탈리안 스타일 미트볼’ 을 선보이며, 샌프란시스코의 인기 레스토랑 피오렐라(Fiorella) 에서는 셰프 브랜든 길리스(Brandon Gillis) 가 미션 반스의 배양 지방을 활용한 미트볼, 베이컨 등 이탈리안 시즌 메뉴를 제공할 예정이다.

Mission Barns Gains USDA Approval for Cultivated Fat, Announces Restaurant & Retail Launches

Mission Barns has received approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for its cultivated pork fat, allowing the ingredient to enter the US market. The approval includes a grant of USDA inspection for the company’s San Francisco pilot facility and a label sign-off for its cultivated fat ingredient, which previously gained FDA approval earlier this year.

Mission Barns is now preparing for limited, high-impact launches, including targeted product releases with retail and food service partners such as Sprouts Farmers Market and San Francisco restaurant Fiorella. Sprouts locations in the Bay Area will offer Mission Barns Cultivated Italian-Style Meatballs, while Chef Brandon Gillis at Fiorella has created seasonal Italian dishes featuring Mission Barns’ cultivated fat, including meatballs and bacon.

미국 푸드테크 스타트업 프렌즈 앤 패밀리 펫푸드 컴퍼니(Friends & Family Pet Food Company)가 싱가포르에서 반려동물용 배양육 판매에 대한 규제 당국의 승인을 획득했다. 아시아 시장에서는 처음 있는 일이다.

이번에 승인된 제품은 개와 고양이를 위한 사료 및 간식으로, 전체 성분의 65~70%가 배양 세포로 구성되어 있다. 프렌즈 앤 패밀리는 말레이시아와 인도네시아가 원산지인 캄풍 닭의 세포를 사용해 인체 섭취 기준의 배양육을 생산하고 있으며, 해당 제품은 총 8개의 SKU로 출시될 예정이다.

US food tech startup Friends & Family Pet Food Company has received regulatory approval to sell its cultivated meat for dogs and cats in Singapore, a first for Asia. Its inaugural treats will contain 65-70% cultured cells.

The Californian startup is the first to be cleared to sell cultivated pet food in Asia. It produces human-grade cultivated meat from the cells of Kampung chickens, a breed native to Malaysia and Indonesia, and will initially sell it as part of eight SKUs, with more to follow.

The announcement comes just days after two regulatory wins for cultivated meat startups in Friends & Family’s home country: Mission Barns secured the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) green light for its cultured pork fat, while Believer Meats received a ‘no questions’ letter from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its cultivated chicken.

세계 인구 100명 중 8명 굶주려…식량안보 여건 악화

지난해 전 세계 인구 100명 중 8명은 기아에 시달리고 있는 것으로 나타났다고 AFP통신이 유엔 보고서를 인용해 28일(현지시간) 보도했다.

유엔식량농업기구(FAO), 세계식량계획(WFP), 세계보건기구(WHO), 국제농업개발기금(IFAD), 유엔아동기금(UNICEF)이 이날 에티오피아 아디스아바바에서 열린 유엔 식량 시스템 정상회의를 계기로 '2025년 식량 안보·영양 현황(SOFI)' 보고서를 발표하고 2024년 기아에 직면한 인구를 약 6억3천800만명∼7억2천만명으로 추정했다.

이는 전 세계 인구의 약 7.8%∼8.8%에 해당하며 평균 8.2%다.

8 out of 100 people worldwide go hungry – Global food security worsening

According to a report by the UN, cited by AFP on the 28th (local time), around 8 out of every 100 people in the world suffered from hunger last year.

The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) 2025 report, released during the UN Food Systems Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, was jointly published by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Food Programme (WFP), the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and UNICEF.

The report estimates that in 2024, between 638 million and 720 million people globally are facing hunger — roughly 7.8% to 8.8% of the world population, with an average of 8.2%.
